Singapore Poised to Beat Rival Hong Kong in Listing First SPACs

The Singapore stock exchange is poised to list its first SPAC as early as next week, which could put it ahead of rival Hong Kong in welcoming the popular new form of fundraising.

Two sponsor companies on Thursday announced they had filed prospectuses for IPOs of their SPACs, the first such filings in the city. The financial hub is keen to follow in the footsteps of the U.S., which has seen a flood of SPAC listings during the course of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hong Kong’s stock exchange operator, by contrast, only opened the door to SPAC listings at the start of this year, a little later than its Singaporean counterpart, which launched a framework for the vehicle months ago.

Singapore Buyout Fund Novo Tellus’ SPAC Files For $111M Local IPO

A SPAC backed by Southeast Asian industrial technology buyout fund Novo Tellus Capital Partners will open the books for its S$150 million ($111.4 million) IPO on Friday, Reuters said.

Separately, last week Vertex Technology, a SPAC sponsored by Singapore state investor Temasek-owned Vertex Venture, and Pegasus Asia – a SPAC backed by European asset manager Tikehaue Capital, filed their prospectuses ahead of their listings later this month.

Planet to Launch 44 SuperDove Satellites on SpaceX’s Falcon 9 Rocket

Planet Labs PBC (NYSE: PL), a leading provider of daily data and insights about Earth, today announced that the launch of their Flock 4x, consisting of 44 SuperDove satellites, will take place on Thursday, January 13th on SpaceX’s Falcon 9 Transporter-3 SSO. This marks the first satellite launch under Planet’s new multi-year, multi-launch rideshare agreement with SpaceX.

Planet operates the world’s largest constellation of Earth observation satellites; and with this launch, the company will have more than 240 satellites in orbit.

On December 3, dMY Technology shareholders approved its business combination with Planet Labs.
