2019 Underwriters League Tournament – We’re Down to the Elite 8!

It’s actually the “Nimble Nine”.  We had an unanticipated TIE!

There aren’t any really good, descriptive “N” words and “nice” seems…wrong.  “Nimble” will have to do unless anyone has a better suggestion.  However, yesterday’s Round One matches did not disappoint…the match-ups were even closer then predicted.  In fact, Goldman pulled out a last minute victory to move into Round Two, but their match-up is now against both Chardan AND Stifel.  That’s because Chardan and Stifel were dead even as voting closed for the day.

A tie was completely unanticipated and frankly, we weren’t sure how to handle it.  Ultimately, it was decided to make Match #3 a three-way race. In other matches, both Citigroup and Goldman Sachs edged out their races 51% to 49% as well, but were also extremely close.

Interestingly, some of the strategies have involved a little game theory…not only are people voting FOR their team, but I’m hearing they are also voting AGAINST teams they don’t want to go up against in the next round.  SPAC people…always three steps ahead.  However, that probably accounts for such tight races.

Voting ends at 10:00PM so there’s still time…Get your votes in to see who makes the Final Four!
